REFLEXOLOGY
WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is a holistic complementary therapy based on the theory that the feet and hands are a direct microcosm of the whole body, that they contain reflex points which correspond to different organs, systems and glands of the body. The right foot and hand reflect the right side of the body and left foot and hand the left side.
After illness, injury or periods of stress the body’s systems are often thrown out of balance and its vital energy pathways become blocked, stopping the body from functioning effectively. By applying pressure with your thumbs and fingers to stimulate these reflexes, a state of deep relaxation is triggered which allows the nervous system to calm down. Together with improved circulation, the body is encouraged to restore its normal healthy balance and overall sense of well-being. The practitioner is primarily acting as a mediator to activate the client’s own healing potential.
Reflexology has been found to:
-
Reduce tension and fatigue by promoting relaxation
-
Boost the body’s ability to heal itself
-
Improve immune system
-
Increase circulation by improving blood flow through the body
-
Stimulate nerve function
-
Detoxify the body
Reflexologists do not diagnose or claim to cure. Also, Reflexology should never be seen as an alternative to seeking medical advice but rather something that can complement and work alongside traditional treatments.
If you are someone who does not like their feet being touched you can opt for Hand Reflexology. However, most people who try Foot Reflexology are genuinely surprised to find that it is not at all ticklish due to the type of pressure used.
